Visual System: Prostriata — A Visual Area Off the Beaten Path

چکیده

Recent work establishes that Prostriata, a little-studied area of the visual cortex neighboring V1, has distinct but hybrid visual properties which are suggestive of an unsuspected role in the rapid analysis and integration of peripheral visual stimuli.

Area Prostriata in the Human Brain.

Area prostriata is a cortical area at the fundus of the calcarine sulcus, described anatomically in humans [1-5] and other primates [6-9]. It is lightly myelinated and lacks the clearly defined six-layer structure evident throughout the cerebral cortex, with a thinner layer 4 and thicker layer 2 [10], characteristic of limbic cortex [11]. In the marmoset and rhesus monkey, area prostriata has c...

A Specialized Area in Limbic Cortex for Fast Analysis of Peripheral Vision

In primates, prostriata is a small area located between the primary visual cortex (V1) and the hippocampal formation. Prostriata sends connections to multisensory and high-order association areas in the temporal, parietal, cingulate, orbitofrontal, and frontopolar cortices. It is characterized by a relatively simple histological organization, alluding to an early origin in mammalian evolution. ...

Localization of area prostriata and its projection to the cingulate motor cortex in the rhesus monkey.

Area prostriata is a poorly understood cortical area located in the anterior portion of the calcarine sulcus. It has attracted interest as a separate visual area and progenitor for the cortex of this modality. In this report we describe a direct projection from area prostriata to the rostral cingulate motor cortex (M3) that forms the fundus and lower bank of the anterior part of the cingulate s...

Fasciclin II and Beaten path modulate intercellular adhesion in Drosophila larval visual organ development.

Previous studies demonstrated that Fasciclin II and Beaten path are necessary for regulating cell adhesion events that are important for motoneuron development in Drosophila. We observe that the cell adhesion molecule Fasciclin II and the secreted anti-adhesion molecule Beaten path have additional critical roles in the development of at least one set of sensory organs, the larval visual organs....

Rereading the Role of Visual-Perceptual Elements of Historic Context Passages of Yazd to Organize Citizens’ Perceptual System

Paths located in ancient districts are flexible and lively places to understand man’s position in the environment and his/her connection with the past. Developing the sense of belonging to place in neighborhoods of the old texture of Yazd by people’s interaction with the paths can be effective in managing and reforming the affairs of neighborhoods, residential environment and organizing neighbo...
